The subject of the work is none other than the 14th US president, Franklin Pierce.

Pierce was the son of a lieutenant in the Revolutionary war. He was from New Hampshire and had a successful career as a private lawyer and soldier. Pierce also served in congress and the senate before becoming president.

This work was actually created based on another painting of the former president.

Today this work hangs at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.

About The Artist

George Healy was an American artist alive from 1813 to 1894. He was from Boston and the son of Irish immigrants. He studied art by making a copy of a famous painting that a wealthy friend lent him. Healy later went to Europe to study and began to develop himself and start exhibiting in Paris. He mostly focused on painting presidents of the United States.

For some crazy reason my father wanted this for his birthday to hang in his family room. An odd request if you ask me... but the quality was good and it hung well. So I guess if you like Reagan enough to want his portrait in your house then this is a good buy. My mom is not pleased with the new decor but dad loves it. :)

I ordered a larger version for my daughter-in-law. She loved it so much, I ordered this one for me. I plan to order another one or two for friends. I couldn't believe this was not a cheap poster; and the canvas is guaranteed for 100 years.
