About Edvard Munch’s Madonna

Considering this Madonna Edvard Munch print?

Edvard Munch painted this beautiful portrait from 1892-1895.

The work features a topless woman with her eyes closed.

Many believe the painting is from the perspective of a man who is having sexual intercourse with her. There is a lithographic print version of the artwork that shows a sperm border around the work with a fetus at the bottom left.

The name of the work, Madonna, means “an idealized and virtuous beautiful woman,” it also means the Virgin Mary.

There are 4 original versions of the work. The homes for the works are the Munch Museum of Oslo, the National Gallery of Norway, the Kunsthalle Hamburg, and in a private collection.
